Utmanartåget to Åre runs between Malmö – Stockholm – Åre during the winter sport season (December – May). and is Sweden’s first private night train operating without state subsidies. Utmanartåget’s timetable is adapted to the days when visitors arrive to or leave their accommodation in Åre, i.e. Thursdays,Saturdays and back Fridays,Sundays.

Åre - Northern Europe´s biggest ski resort

There is skiing suitable for everyone in Åre, whatever your age or level. Åre’s location makes it a snow-secure destination. The season lasts for about 6 months, usually starting in November and ending in early May.

Price example when buying a ticket online

Malmö C - Åre       699 SEK
Stockholm - Åre     599 SEK

Price quoted is for 2nd class. For travel in a couchette add 150 SEK.

Youth under 26 years of age and pensioners have up to 15 % discount (max 100 SEK)

Family offer: two children under the age of 16 years of age can accompany a paying adult in a Couchette for a fee of 249 SEK per child. In 2nd class, two children under the age of 16 years of age can accompany a paying adult at no cost.

Special holidays the price can be different.

Tickets

Tickets can be purchased online with a Visa or Mastercard, by selecting departure and arrival stations in the journey planner on the right side. Only Nordic credit cards are accepted when purchasing tickets online.

For all other credit cards, tickets can be booked and purchased over the telephone. Please call our Customer Service at +46 771-26 00 00. Tickets are sent home and a small distribution fee applies.

Tickets can also be purchased from most European state railway companies. For a list of agents, click here.

Interrail and Eurail cards are valid for travel on the Lappland train. Seats can be reserved for a 59 SEK fee and couchettes can be reserved for a 269 SEK fee.
